  • Trafalgar Square, London, Friday 7 November. The Royal British Legion unveiled the Every Man Remembered sculpture in Trafalgar Square, a collaborative piece with the artist Mark Humphrey. The brass sculpture, loosely based on the Unknown Solider, stands on a plinth of limestone sourced from the Somme and is encased in a Perspex obelisk, surrounded by poppies which float up around the figure every five minutes. PICTURED: Cradled in his arms, a precious burden of poppies.

Worth £60,000, the prize is awarded every two years to a living author who has published fiction either originally in English or whose work is generally available in translation in the English language. Worth £60,000, the prize is awarded every two years to a living author who has published fiction either originally in English or whose work is generally available in translation in the English language. The winner is chosen solely at the discretion of the judging panel and there are no submissions from publishers. The ten finalists for 2015 were The nine other  finalists were César Aira (Argentina), Hoda Barakat (Lebanon), Maryse Condé (Guadeloupe), Mia Couto (Mozambique), Amitav Ghosh (India), Fanny Howe (United States of America), Ibrahim al-Koni (Libya),   Alain Mabanckou (Republic of Congo) and Marlene van Niekerk (South Africa).
