  • IWM Duxford, UK, July 4th 2017. North American P-51 Mustang Berlin Express rests on the airfield at IWM Duxford, following its completion of a historic transatlantic flight of 5,470 miles, flown by Lee Lauderback of the United States Air Force Heritage Flight from the United States to IWM Duxford, to take part in the Flying Legends Air Show on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July. The restored Berlin Express is based around the remains of P-51B 43-24837. This Mustang flew with the 9th Air Force’s 363rd Fighter Group out of RAF Staplehurst in Kent. It crashed in Beckley on 10 June 1944 after the pilot was forced to bail out during a training exercise. It wears the markings of Berlin Express and is dressed exactly like the 357th Fighter Group Mustang which Overstreet famously flew under the Eiffel Tower in 1944.
